Refund and cancellation policy
This refund policy explains what happens to your money if you stop classes part-way through a month, and what happens if we are the ones who cannot run a class. The principle behind it is simple: Scholur keeps the fee for classes we actually taught, and gives back the fee for classes we did not.
Fees are charged by the month rather than by the term or the year, so there is no long contract to unwind and no penalty for leaving. The fees page publishes every price openly, and the per-class figure on it is the same one this policy uses.
Full refund and cancellation policy
1. The free assessment
A free 20-minute assessment. We find where your child actually is, then tell you what we would do about it. No card, no commitment. No payment details are taken to book it, nothing is charged, and there is nothing to cancel afterwards. There is therefore nothing to refund, and no situation in which a assessment results in a bill.
2. If you decide to stop
You can stop at any time. There is no minimum term, no notice penalty and no exit fee. Two things then happen:
- Classes already taught are not refunded. The teacher prepared them and taught them, and the batch ran.
- Classes paid for but not yet taught are refunded pro-rata at the per-class value of your plan, worked out as the monthly fee divided by the number of classes in that month.
To avoid being charged for a month you did not want, tell us at least 7 days before your next monthly cycle begins. If you miss that window and the next month has already been charged, the pro-rata rule above still applies - you are not stuck with a month you did not use.
3. The pro-rata calculation, in real numbers
Every plan on the fees page has a per-class value. If you stop with classes left in the month, each unused class is refunded at that figure.
| Plan | Monthly fee | Classes that month | Refunded per unused class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group Class - Spoken English | ₹2,000 | 8 | ₹250 |
| Group Class - All Subjects | ₹3,000 | 16 | ₹188 |
| One-to-One | ₹5,000 | 12 | ₹417 |
| Bangalore Home Tuition | ₹6,000 | 16 | ₹375 |
A worked example. Your child is on Group Class - All Subjects at ₹3,000 a month for Class 1-5, which is 16 classes, so ₹188 a class. You tell us you are stopping after six classes. Ten classes are unused, so the refund is ₹1,880. Nothing is deducted from it as an administration charge.
4. If we cancel a class
Sometimes a teacher is ill or something on our side goes wrong. When that happens, it is our problem to fix and not something you should be out of pocket for.
- We tell you as early as we can, on WhatsApp, rather than leaving your child waiting in an empty call.
- We reschedule the class at a time that suits you, at no extra cost. In a small-group batch we will normally move the whole batch rather than split it.
- If we cannot reschedule it within thirty days, that class is refunded at its per-class value - automatically, without you having to chase it.
- If we ever have to stop a batch altogether, every remaining paid class is refunded pro-rata and we will help you find the classes elsewhere if we can.
A class disrupted by something outside our control - your internet connection, a power cut, a device failure at your end - is treated as a missed class rather than a cancelled one. If it is our connection that fails, it is a cancelled class and this section applies.
5. Classes your child misses
A class your child does not attend is not refunded, because the teacher was there and the batch ran. It is not simply lost either: the teacher picks the topic up in the following class, and on plans that include a recording you are sent the session to watch. Tell us in advance where you can, so the teacher can plan around it.
For a long absence - an illness or a family situation that will keep your child away for several weeks - talk to us rather than paying for classes nobody is attending. We would far rather pause a place than take money for an empty seat.
6. How to ask for a refund
Message Kanchan on WhatsApp at +91 82176 67359, or email [email protected]. Tell us your child’s name as we have it, the plan they are on and the date you want classes to stop. You do not need to give a reason.
- We confirm the number of unused classes and the amount, in writing.
- Once the amount is agreed, the refund is sent back to the account or method the fee was paid from, normally within 7 working days.
- No administration fee, no processing charge and no deduction for “materials already issued”.
If you think we have got a calculation wrong, say so and we will go through it with you line by line. If we have made a mistake, we will correct it.
7. If we end classes
We may end classes in the situations described in the terms and conditions - for example if fees are unpaid, or if we conclude we are not the right service for your child. In every case except unpaid fees, all remaining paid classes are refunded pro-rata on the same basis as above.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it, and the version in force when you paid is the one that applies to that payment. We will tell current parents directly about any change that materially affects them.
Not legal advice
This policy is written in plain English by the people who run the classes. It is not legal advice and it has not been drafted or reviewed by a lawyer. We recommend that a qualified Indian lawyer reviews it - alongside the terms and conditions and the privacy policy - before it is relied on, and you are welcome to take your own advice on anything here.

Questions parents ask about refunds
How is a pro-rata refund worked out?
We take the monthly fee for your plan, divide it by the number of classes in that month, and refund that amount for each class you have paid for and not taken. The figure is the same one shown on the fees page as the per-class cost.
What if my child simply did not attend classes we had paid for?
Classes your child chose not to attend without notice have been delivered as far as we are concerned - the teacher was there and the batch ran - so they are not refunded. Classes still in the future when you tell us you are stopping are refunded pro-rata.
What if we cancel after only one paid class?
Then you are refunded for every class after that one. There is no minimum term, no joining period you have to see out and no penalty for leaving early.
What happens if the teacher cannot take a class?
We reschedule it at a time that suits you, at no extra cost. If we cannot find a slot within thirty days, that class is refunded at its per-class value without you having to ask twice.
Do I have to give a reason for stopping?
No. Tell us you are stopping and that is enough. Nobody will put you through a retention script or ask you to justify it. If you do want to tell us what went wrong, we would genuinely like to know, but it is not a condition of anything.
Is the free assessment refundable?
There is nothing to refund. A free 20-minute assessment. We find where your child actually is, then tell you what we would do about it. No card, no commitment. No payment details are taken to book it and there is nothing to cancel afterwards.
What if I am unhappy with the teaching rather than the schedule?
Tell us first, because the usual fix is a different teacher rather than a refund, and a change of match is free and quick. If you would still rather stop after that, the pro-rata refund applies exactly as it would otherwise.
