Terms and conditions

These terms and conditions set out how Scholur Learning runs classes, what we owe you and what we ask of you in return. They apply when you book an assessment class, enrol a child, or simply use https://scholur.com. They are written to be read by a parent, not to be impressive.

If anything here is unclear, ask before you book rather than after. Message Kanchan on WhatsApp at +91 82176 67359 or email [email protected].

Full terms and conditions

1. Who these terms are between

They are between Scholur Learning (“Scholur”, “we”, “us”), based at HSR Layout, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560102, India, and you - the parent or lawful guardian booking classes for a child.

Every student we teach is a minor. A child cannot agree to these terms, is never asked to, and is not a party to them. Booking a class, paying a fee or attending an assessment means you accept these terms on your own behalf and on behalf of your child.

2. How classes are delivered

Classes are live and taught by a teacher in real time. They are not pre-recorded videos and they are not a chatbot. The same teacher takes the same class each week - we do not run a rota of substitutes.

  • Online classes run over a standard video call. You need a phone, tablet or laptop with a working camera and a reasonably steady internet connection. There is nothing to buy or install beyond a common video call app.
  • In-person classes are available only in parts of Bengaluru and only in very limited numbers, at your home or an agreed location. A responsible adult should be present in the home during an in-person class.
  • Class length and frequency are whatever the plan you chose says on the fees page. Those details form part of these terms.

We match a teacher to your child based on their class, board and the difficulty you describe. If the match is not working, tell us and we will change it. That is a normal request, not a complaint.

3. The free assessment

A free 20-minute assessment. We find where your child actually is, then tell you what we would do about it. No card, no commitment. No payment details are taken to book it, there is nothing to cancel afterwards, and there is no obligation to enrol. It is a full live class rather than a sales call, and you are welcome to sit with your child and watch it. We may decline to continue after an assessment if we do not believe we are the right service for your child, and we will say so honestly if that is the case.

4. Scheduling, rescheduling and missed classes

Classes run at a fixed weekly slot agreed with you when your child joins a batch. Our class hours are 16:00-20:00 on weekdays and 09:00-13:00 at weekends, IST. For families abroad we set the slot around your local evening where we can.

  • If your child cannot attend, tell us in advance where possible. The teacher will carry the topic into the next class, and on plans that include a recording you will be sent the session. A class missed without notice is not usually made up as a separate session.
  • If you need to move your regular slot, ask. We will move it where a suitable batch has room, and tell you plainly if it does not.
  • If we have to cancel or move a class, we will tell you as early as we can and reschedule it at no extra cost. Where we cannot reschedule within a reasonable period, that class is refunded pro-rata under the refund policy.
  • Public holidays and school breaks are agreed with the batch in advance rather than assumed either way.

5. Fees and payment

Fees are published in full on the fees page, are charged per child per month, and are payable in advance of the month they cover. We will always tell you the amount before you pay it. If we change our fees, the new fee applies from your next monthly cycle and never retrospectively, and we will tell you before it takes effect.

Cancellation, notice and refunds are dealt with in the refund and cancellation policy, which forms part of these terms.

6. Conduct in class

A group class children only works if it feels safe to be wrong in it. So we ask for very little, but we ask for it firmly.

  • Children are expected to be courteous to the teacher and to the other children in the batch. Persistent disruption that stops other children learning may mean we move a student out of a batch, and in a serious case end classes - we would always talk to you first.
  • Parents are welcome to watch any class. We ask that you do not coach from off-camera during it: a teacher needs to see what your child can do unaided.
  • We ask parents and students not to record, screenshot, stream or redistribute a class. Other people’s children are in the room and their families have not agreed to that.
  • Our teachers are entitled to the same courtesy. Abusive behaviour towards a teacher, in class or by message, ends the arrangement.

7. Materials and intellectual property

Worksheets, lesson plans, question sets, games, articles, illustrations and the design of this website belong to Scholur Learning unless stated otherwise.

  • Free material published on this website - the worksheets, the games and the articles - may be printed, copied and used for teaching your own children or a class you teach. It may not be resold, put behind a paywall, or republished as your own.
  • Material prepared for a paid class is licensed to you for your own child’s use for as long as they study with us. Please do not circulate it more widely.
  • Textbook names, board names and syllabus references belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe what we teach.

8. What we promise, and what we do not

We promise a teacher who has taught your child’s class and board, a batch taught live at the agreed time by the teacher we matched, and an honest account of how your child is getting on - including when the news is not good.

We do not promise a particular mark, grade, rank or exam result. No tuition service honestly can. Progress depends on your child, their school, the effort at home and time, none of which we control. Any service guaranteeing a score is selling you something else.

9. Limitation of liability

We will take reasonable care in providing classes and in matching a teacher to your child. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for anything that cannot be limited by law - including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, we are not liable for a class disrupted by something outside our reasonable control, such as your internet connection, a power cut, a device failure at either end, or a video platform outage; nor for academic outcomes, exam results or admissions decisions; nor for indirect or consequential losses. Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to the fees you have paid us for the month in which the problem arose.

An online class is not childcare or supervision. During an online class your child remains in your care, and a responsible adult should be reachable at home.

10. Ending classes

You may stop at any time, on the notice set out in the refund policy. There is no term contract, no lock-in and no exit fee.

We may end classes if fees are not paid, if the conduct expectations above are broken, or if we genuinely believe we are not the right service for your child. In the last case we will refund unused classes pro-rata and, where we can, suggest somewhere better suited.

11. Privacy

How we handle your information - and the very small amount we hold about your child - is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

12. Changes, and the law that applies

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and we will tell current parents directly about any change that materially affects them. These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka have jurisdiction.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

Not legal advice

These terms are written in plain English by the people who run the classes, so that a parent can read them in one sitting. They are not legal advice and they have not been drafted or reviewed by a lawyer. We recommend that a qualified Indian lawyer reviews them before they are relied on, and you are welcome to take your own advice on anything here.

Questions parents ask about the terms

Who is the contract with - me or my child?

With you, the parent or lawful guardian. Every student here is a minor, so a child cannot agree to these terms and is never asked to. You book, you pay, and you are the person we deal with.

What happens if my child misses a class?

Tell us in advance where you can. The teacher will pick the topic up in the following class, and on the plans that include a recording you will get the session to watch. A class missed without notice is not usually made up separately - see the plan details.

What happens if the teacher cannot take a class?

We reschedule it at a time that suits you, at no extra cost. If we cannot reschedule it within a reasonable period, that class is refunded pro-rata under the refund policy. That is our problem to solve, not yours.

Can I record the class myself?

No. Other people's children are in the batch, and their parents have not agreed to being recorded. Where a recording is part of your plan, we provide it ourselves and it is for your family's use only.

Can I share the worksheets with my child's school or friends?

Worksheets we publish free on this website may be printed and shared for any non-commercial teaching use - that is what they are for. Materials prepared for a paid class are for your own child, and should not be resold or republished.

Do you guarantee my child's marks will improve?

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. We can promise a teacher who has taught your child's exact class and board, a class where they are asked something every lesson, and an honest account of how they are getting on. Results depend on the child, the school and the effort at home too.
