Here’s one done for you
letter → one person. A letter is written to somebody in particular. A newspaper is printed for everyone who buys it. That is the difference between personal communication and mass communication, and asking 'who is it meant for?' sorts every item on the list.

Here’s one done for you
Cross only at the zebra crossing → because drivers expect people to cross there and slow down for it. 'Because it is safe' repeats the question. The mark is for saying what actually makes it safer, and 'and why is that safer?' is the prompt that gets a child there.

Here’s one done for you
A leaking tap → a plumber, because they repair pipes and taps. Both halves are needed. A child who writes only 'plumber' has answered the Class 2 version of the question - Class 4 wants the reason as well, and that pattern runs through every EVS chapter this year.

While your child works
- 'And why is that safer?' is the prompt for the safety exercise. Answers that repeat the question get no marks and children do not know that until told.
- Use real examples from your own week - a parcel you sent, a repair someone came to do. EVS is the one subject where the material is genuinely in the room.
- Both halves - who, and why - are needed in the last exercise. Point at the missing half rather than supplying it.
