Online tuition in Qatar

Because demand for Indian-curriculum places in Doha exceeds what a single school day can accommodate. Both M.E.S Indian School, which has been running for around fifty years and has an Abu Hamour branch, and Birla Public School, founded in 2004, operate morning and evening shifts.

That is an unusual arrangement and a revealing one. It tells you the Indian-curriculum system in Qatar is running at capacity, which in practice means larger classes and less individual attention per child - not through any failing of the schools but through simple arithmetic.

It also has a direct scheduling consequence. A child on the evening shift has a free morning; a child on the morning shift is finished by early afternoon. Either way there is a real, uncontested block of time available for a weekly class, which is not the case for families in countries where school runs to 3pm or later.

Well, and better than for most markets. Published timings at Doha's large Indian schools finish early: Birla Public School runs Classes II to XII from 7:00am to 1:00pm, and DPS-Modern Indian School Classes I to XII from 7:15am to 2:00pm, with Nursery and Prep out at 11:00am. During Ramadan, DPS-MIS shifts to an 8:30am start.

India is two and a half hours ahead of Qatar. So a 6pm class in India is 3:30pm in Doha - an hour or two after school ends, with no rush. A 7pm India class is 4:30pm here. Both are ordinary teaching hours on the Indian side, which means you are not competing for an awkward early-morning or late-night slot.

The weekend is the one thing to plan around: Qatar's weekend is Friday and Saturday, while India's is Saturday and Sunday. The overlap is Saturday, so a weekend class means Saturday for both. Weekday afternoons are usually the easier fit here.

Whichever school your child attends, the syllabus underneath is CBSE or ICSE, and our teachers work from your child's own books and their school's actual sequence. Class 1 to Class 10, on CBSE, ICSE and IGCSE - Doha's Indian schools are predominantly CBSE, but the international mix means IGCSE comes up as well.

Spoken English runs separately, and worksheets and games are free to anyone.

A morning-shift child finishing at 1pm or 2pm has a clear afternoon, which with India two and a half hours ahead lands squarely in a normal Indian teaching evening. An evening-shift child has a free morning instead, which also falls inside Indian teaching hours. Either works; they simply need different slots, and getting that right at the start avoids rescheduling later.
