Most of the content continues from EVS. What changes is the marking: an answer now needs the reason behind it, not just the correct name.
Class 6 is the first year Science exists as a subject in its own right, and the first year children discover that knowing the answer and writing the answer are different things. A child who could name the separation method, the adaptation or the missing nutrient scored well in EVS. In Science that same response earns half the marks, because the question is really asking why - which property makes the method work, how the feature helps the animal survive, what symptom the deficiency produces. The content is largely familiar. The answer shape is not, and nobody says so out loud, which is why a strong EVS student can have a disappointing first Science term and no clear idea what went wrong.

The syllabus divides fairly cleanly into two halves, and knowing which half a chapter is in tells you how to prepare for it.
Continuing from EVS - food and nutrition, living organisms, habitat, water and air. Your child has met all of this. The risk here is complacency: it reads as revision and is marked as Science, so a chapter that feels easy produces a mark that does not.
Genuinely new - light and shadows, electricity and circuits, magnets. These usually go better, precisely because nobody assumes they already know them. Children often enjoy the circuits chapter most in the whole year.

Because EVS accepted the name and Science wants the reasoning. A child who writes 'filtration' rather than 'filtration, because sand does not dissolve' knows the answer perfectly well and is writing half of it - which earns roughly half the marks.
This is the single most useful thing a parent can know about the year, and it is almost never explained at school because it is a marking convention rather than a topic.
Three examples of the same shift:
The diagnosis is quick. Look at a marked paper and ask, for each lost mark, whether your child knew the content. If they did in most cases, the problem is answer shape rather than knowledge, and that is a much faster thing to fix. It is the same pattern described in studying hard but getting low marks.
It answers the question asked, in as many parts as there are marks, and it includes the reason. A three-mark question wants three things - and most children have never been told that the mark count tells you the answer length.
Four habits cover most of the recoverable marks in this subject, and none of them requires learning more content.
These are the same habits Class 9 and 10 assume, which is why building them at Class 6 is worth so much more than it appears - see Class 10 for where they eventually get tested.
Less than most families assume, and of a different kind. Answering questions in writing beats rereading the chapter, and twenty minutes of written answers after each chapter is worth more than an hour of revision before a test.
The mistake is treating Science as a reading subject. Reading a chapter feels productive and produces very little, because the thing being tested is the ability to construct an answer, not to recognise the content.

The content is broadly similar across boards; the answer style differs. CBSE rewards precision inside a defined scope, ICSE rewards more developed answers and carries more internal assessment.
A Class 6 child is not learning different science under a different board. What differs is what the marking scheme wants from the answer.

By teaching the answer, not only the content. The first sessions look at a marked paper and sort the lost marks into knowledge gaps and answer-shape gaps, because those need completely different work.
Most Class 6 Science tuition reteaches the chapter. That helps the minority of children who genuinely did not understand it, and does nothing for the majority whose problem is that they knew it and wrote half an answer.
So the first thing we do is diagnostic: take a recent test and go through it question by question, asking whether your child knew the content. What that reveals decides the term. If it is answer shape, the work is question practice with immediate feedback on structure - counting marks, adding the reason, labelling diagrams. If it is genuinely content, we teach the chapter from your child's own book, in the order their school is covering it.

Everything above about the syllabus is checked against the boards’ own material rather than against other tuition sites. If a claim cannot be traced back to one of these, it is not on the page.
The content is not, and most of it continues from EVS. What is hard is the marking: an answer now needs the reason behind it rather than just the correct name, and nobody usually explains that. A strong EVS student can have a poor first Science term for that reason alone.

Separation of substances and living organisms carry the reasoning that the rest of the year is marked on. Light, electricity and magnets are genuinely new and usually go better, precisely because nobody assumes prior knowledge.

Yes, and they carry their own marks. Those marks are for the labels, with the line touching the correct part - a carefully drawn but unlabelled diagram earns nothing, which surprises children every time.
Twenty minutes of written answers after each chapter beats an hour of rereading before a test. Science tests the ability to construct an answer, and rereading practises recognition instead.
The content less than you would think - the habits far more. Counting marks, giving reasons and labelling diagrams are exactly what Class 9 and 10 assume, and those are much cheaper to build now than to repair later.
