While your child works

  • If your child recites a table quickly but freezes when asked for one fact out of order, that is a recall gap, not a maths gap - the derivation exercise is aimed at exactly that.
  • Keep to "times" out loud at home rather than "multiplied by" or the × sign - matching the classroom’s own words reduces confusion.
  • The tables of 4, 6, 7 and 8 are meant to be built from other tables this year, not purely memorised - praise a correct derivation as much as a fast recall.

About this worksheet

Should my Class 2 child know all ten tables by heart by now?

By the end of the year, yes, but the route matters as much as the result - 2, 3, 5 and 10 are built directly, and 4, 6, 7 and 8 are meant to be derived from two known tables, not only chanted.

Why is there no × sign anywhere on this worksheet?

Because Class 2 does not use it. NCERT introduces the × symbol formally in Class 3, so "times" is written out in full this year.

What does "table of 7 is derived" actually mean?

It means the table of 7 is built by adding the matching facts from the table of 3 and the table of 4, rather than being taught and memorised as a separate list - that is exactly what the second exercise practises.

Does this Class 2 Maths worksheet come with answers?
