Class 1 Hindi Do Akshar Shabd Worksheet
Class 1 Hindi · Two-letter words (दो अक्षर वाले शब्द) · 54 questions with answers
Words with no matra at all, which sounds like a step backwards after the matra sheets and is not - these are the words a child reads fastest and most confidently, and building that fluency is what makes matra words readable rather than decodable. Every word here is two letters, no marks, nothing to trip over.
- Join two consonants to read a word without any matra.
- Read a two-letter word at sight rather than sounding it out each time.
- Write a two-letter word from hearing it.

Writing from hearing is much harder than reading from the page, and it is the direction exams test. If your child can read all six but writes only three, that is normal at this stage and worth practising rather than worrying about.

While your child works
- Every Hindi consonant carries a built-in short 'a'. Children who have come from English phonics sometimes expect a vowel to be added and get stuck waiting for one - saying this once resolves it.
- The dictation exercise is the valuable one. Reading is recognition and writing from hearing is production, and only the second is what an exam asks for.
- Keep this sheet in circulation even after moving on to matras. Fluency on plain words is what makes matra words readable at speed rather than decodable letter by letter.
