Class 4 expects the पूर्ण विराम, the प्रश्नवाचक चिह्न and the अल्प विराम used without reminders, and introduces muhavare - which are marked on meaning and use, not on being recited.

  • Uses the correct viram chinh at the end of a sentence
  • Places the alp viram in a list correctly
  • Explains what a muhavara means and uses it in a sentence

Exercise 1 of 3 · 11 questions

उचित विराम चिह्न लगाइए - add the correct punctuation mark.

Here’s one done for you

तुम्हारा नाम क्या है → तुम्हारा नाम क्या है? A sentence that asks takes the प्रश्नवाचक चिह्न. The last item needs अल्प विराम between items in a list, but not before the और - that comma-before-and habit comes from English and is wrong here.

  1. 1)तुम्हारा नाम क्या है
  2. 2)आज मौसम बहुत अच्छा है
  3. 3)वाह कितना सुंदर फूल है
  4. 4)क्या तुम मेरे साथ चलोगे
  5. 5)मुझे आम केला और सेब पसंद हैं
  6. 6)अरे यह क्या हो गया

मुहावरे का अर्थ लिखिए - write what each idiom means.

Here’s one done for you

आँखों का तारा → बहुत प्रिय होना. The words say 'star of the eyes' and the meaning is 'very dear'. That gap between the words and the meaning is the whole point of a muhavara - a child translating the words literally will always get it wrong, and that is worth saying once explicitly.

Any sentence that uses the idiom with its real meaning is correct - these are examples. The common error is using the words literally, as in 'मैंने हाथ बाँट दिए', which means something quite different.

  1. 1)हाथ बँटाना
  2. 2)पेट में चूहे दौड़ना
  3. 3)आँखों का तारा
  4. 4)नाक में दम करना
  5. 5)चार चाँद लगाना
  6. 6)आग बबूला होना
  7. 7)दाँतों तले उँगली दबाना
  8. 8)कान खड़े होना

Answers

While your child works

  • The comma before और is an English habit and is wrong in Hindi. Point it out once - most children import it without noticing.
  • Say explicitly that a muhavara does not mean what its words say. Children translate literally until they are told this, and then they stop.
  • In the last exercise accept any sentence that uses the idiom with its correct meaning. Ours are examples.

Questions parents ask

About this worksheet

Are the answers included?

Yes, on this page under each exercise and on a separate sheet when printed. For the sentence-writing exercise the answers are examples - any correct use of the idiom counts.

How should a child learn muhavare?

By meaning and use, not by reciting a list. Ten idioms genuinely understood and used in sentences are worth far more than fifty memorised, because the exam asks for use rather than recall.

Does this Class 4 Hindi worksheet come with answers?

Yes. Every exercise has a full answer key, and it prints on its own page at the end rather than beside the questions - so you can hand your child the sheet and keep the answers back. Some exercises also show one question already worked out, with the method rather than just the result, which is the part most answer keys leave out.

Is there a free printable PDF?

Yes, and there is no sign-up, no email and no account. The download button at the top of the sheet gives you the whole thing - all 30 questions across 3 exercises, plus the answer key - laid out to print on A4.

How long does this worksheet take?

About 20 minutes for 30 questions, though that is a guide rather than a target. It is designed to be split: the exercises are ordered so stopping halfway still leaves a complete piece of work, which matters more than finishing at this age.

Can I use it if my child is in a different class?

Often, yes - these topics are taught across several years and schools vary in when they arrive. Judge by the questions rather than the class on the label. If the first exercise is a struggle the level below is the better start, and the same topic at other levels is linked further up this page.
