Class 4 Hindi worksheets, free, with every answer on the page

Three free Class 4 Hindi worksheets, with every question and every answer printed on this page rather than behind a download. Class 4 is the year Hindi grammar becomes a connected system rather than a set of separate chapters: the four word types describe every word in a sentence between them, and the visheshan changes to match the ling of the sangya. Punctuation is expected without reminders, muhavare are marked on use rather than recall, and answers become full sentences with a paragraph of the child's own.

Class 4 introduces the four word-types as a set that between them describe every word in a sentence. Learning them as four separate lists is what makes Class 5 grammar feel like a wall - learning them together is what makes it feel obvious.

  • Labels a word as sangya, sarvanam, visheshan or kriya
  • Finds all four types inside one sentence
  • Notices that the visheshan changes to match the sangya

Here’s one done for you

छोटा लड़का तेज़ दौड़ता है। → लड़का is the name, so संज्ञा. छोटा describes लड़का, and तेज़ describes how he runs, so both are विशेषण. दौड़ता है says what is happening, so क्रिया. There is no सर्वनाम here at all - and 'कोई नहीं' is a correct answer, which children rarely believe.

  1. 1)छोटा लड़का तेज़ दौड़ता है।
  2. 2)वह मीठा आम खाती है।
  3. 3)हरी पत्तियाँ हवा में हिलती हैं।
  4. 4)वह लाल कमीज़ पहनता है।

While your child works

  • Teach the four questions in order rather than four definitions. A child who asks 'is it a name, does it replace a name, does it describe one, or does it say what happens?' can label almost any word.
  • 'कोई नहीं' is a correct answer when a sentence has no सर्वनाम. Children assume every box must be filled and invent something.
  • For the last exercise, have your child say the phrase aloud first. Their ear is more reliable than their memory of the rule.

Class 4 Hindi - the guide

What changes in Class 4 Hindi?

Class 3 taught ling and vachan as things to change on demand. Class 4 connects them to everything else, and that connection is the year's real content.

The four word types arrive as a set. Sangya, sarvanam, visheshan and kriya between them account for every word in a sentence, and Class 4 asks a child to label a whole sentence rather than one word at a time. Taught as four separate chapters they become four lists to memorise; taught as four questions asked in order - is it a name, does it stand for a name, does it describe one, does it say what happens - almost any word settles itself.

Agreement becomes visible. अच्छा लड़का but अच्छी लड़की. Your child already says this correctly in conversation; Class 4 asks them to choose it on paper, which is a different skill and the reason fluent speakers still lose marks - see a child who struggles with Hindi despite speaking it at home.

Writing becomes a paragraph. And a paragraph is marked on having an opening and a closing line, not only on its sentences being correct.

How should we use these at home?

Twenty to twenty-five minutes each, once or twice a week. Every exercise opens with a worked example showing one question done with the reasoning visible.

  • Say it aloud before writing. For agreement and for muhavare especially, your child's ear is far more reliable than their memory of a rule.
  • Insist the comprehension answer repeats part of the question. One habit, and it converts most one-word answers into full-mark answers.
  • Accept any correct use of a muhavara. Ours are examples. Marking a valid alternative wrong is the fastest way to make a child stop attempting.
  • Let your child mark their own work. Every answer is on the page for exactly that.

Where do Class 4 children usually stall?

Four places, each with a specific fix.

  • Learning the four word types as four lists. Fixed by asking the four questions in order instead of reciting four definitions.
  • Filling every box. When a sentence has no sarvanam, 'कोई नहीं' is the right answer - children invent one rather than write that.
  • Translating muhavare literally. A muhavara does not mean what its words say, and children keep translating until someone says this explicitly.
  • Paragraphs that stop rather than end. One closing sentence, and it is the cheapest mark on the paper.

If ling and vachan are still shaky, go back to the Class 3 Hindi worksheets first. What comes next is on our Class 5 Hindi page, where extended writing and patra lekhan arrive.

Questions parents ask

Class 4 Hindi worksheets - your questions

Are these Class 4 Hindi worksheets free?

Yes. Every question and every answer is on this page, with no sign-up, no email wall and no account. The printable version puts the answers on a separate final sheet.

Do these include an answer key?

Yes, under each exercise on this page and on a separate sheet when printed. Where more than one answer is correct - idiom sentences and the paragraph - the key says so.

How do I explain sangya, sarvanam, visheshan and kriya simply?

As four questions asked in order: is it a name, does it stand in place of a name, does it describe a name, or does it say what is happening? That settles almost any word without memorising four definitions.

My child speaks Hindi at home but loses marks in grammar. Why?

Speaking and choosing on paper are different skills. A fluent speaker says अच्छी लड़की automatically and then hesitates when asked to pick between अच्छा and अच्छी in a blank. Asking them to say the phrase aloud first usually bridges it.

How should my child learn muhavare?

By meaning and use rather than by reciting a list. Ten idioms genuinely understood and used in sentences are worth more than fifty memorised, because the paper asks for use.

Is a comma used before और in a Hindi list?

No. आम, केला और सेब - the alp viram separates the items but does not appear before और. Children import that comma from English without noticing, and it is worth pointing out once.

How long should a Class 4 child spend on one sheet?

Twenty to twenty-five minutes. If it takes much longer, the sheet is too hard rather than your child being slow - go back to the Class 3 Hindi sheets for a week and return.

Can I print these worksheets?

Yes. They print cleanly on A4 with the answers on a separate final page, and nothing needs to be downloaded or signed up for.
