Class 1 EVS Food, Water and Cleanliness Worksheet with Answers

The revision sheet for the topics a Class 1 syllabus usually closes the year on, and the one where a worksheet can quietly teach the wrong thing. Sorting food into good and bad is how most sheets handle this; that framing is unhelpful for a six-year-old, so the exercises here sort by everyday and sometimes instead, which is both more accurate and easier to live with at home.

  • Sort familiar foods into everyday foods and sometimes foods.
  • Name where the water we use comes from, and two ways to save it.
  • Name the everyday habits that keep us healthy, and say why each one helps.

While your child works

  • The everyday/sometimes framing is deliberate. Calling food good and bad tends to produce either guilt or secrecy at this age, and neither helps - sometimes foods are allowed, just not daily.
  • Exercise 2 is the one most likely to need explaining first. Say the three jobs aloud - grow, energy, protect - and give one example of each before your child starts.
  • The final question has no fixed answer. It is there to connect the sheet to what the child actually ate, which is the whole point of EVS at this stage.

What is on this worksheet

5 exercises, 60 questions, about 25 minutes. Every exercise has an answer key, printed on its own page so it can be kept back. 2 exercises start with a question already worked out, so you can check the method before helping.

The same topic at other levels

Most of these topics are taught over several years rather than in one. If this sheet is too hard or too easy, the same idea at another level is usually the fix.

Questions parents ask

About this worksheet

Why does this worksheet not use 'good food' and 'bad food'?

Because that framing does not work well for a six-year-old - it tends to produce guilt or secrecy rather than better choices. Everyday and sometimes is more accurate and easier to apply at home, and it still teaches the same distinction.

What are the three food groups a Class 1 child should know?

Simply: foods that help us grow (milk, dal, egg, paneer), foods that give energy (rice, roti, potato) and foods that keep us healthy (fruit and vegetables). The technical names come later - Class 1 needs the jobs, not the vocabulary.

Is there an answer key, and is the PDF free?

Yes, a full key printed separately from the questions, and a free printable PDF with no sign-up or email required.

Does this Class 1 EVS worksheet come with answers?

Yes. Every exercise has a full answer key, and it prints on its own page at the end rather than beside the questions - so you can hand your child the sheet and keep the answers back. Some exercises also show one question already worked out, with the method rather than just the result, which is the part most answer keys leave out.

Is there a free printable PDF?

Yes, and there is no sign-up, no email and no account. The download button at the top of the sheet gives you the whole thing - all 60 questions across 5 exercises, plus the answer key - laid out to print on A4.

How long does this worksheet take?

About 25 minutes for 60 questions, though that is a guide rather than a target. It is designed to be split: the exercises are ordered so stopping halfway still leaves a complete piece of work, which matters more than finishing at this age.

Can I use it if my child is in a different class?

Often, yes - these topics are taught across several years and schools vary in when they arrive. Judge by the questions rather than the class on the label. If the first exercise is a struggle the level below is the better start, and the same topic at other levels is linked further up this page.
