Patra lekhan carries the most predictable marks in the Class 5 Hindi paper, because a large share of them are for the format rather than the content. A child who knows where each part goes starts from a strong position before writing a single sentence of their own.

  • Lays out an informal letter with every part in the right place
  • Uses the correct opening and closing for a letter to a relative
  • Writes a short body of three or four sentences that stays on the topic

Exercise 1 of 3 · 5 questions

अनौपचारिक पत्र के भाग क्रम में लिखिए - put the parts of an informal letter in order.

Put in order · Warm-up

Here’s one done for you

The address comes first, then the date, then the greeting, then what you want to say, then the closing with your name. Learning this order once is worth several marks in every letter your child ever writes in this paper - the format marks are given before anyone reads the content.

Elders take पूज्य or आदरणीय and आप; a friend takes प्रिय and तुम. Mixing them - प्रिय पिताजी, or आप to a friend - is the most common format error and it is easy to avoid once pointed out.

Exercise 3 of 3 · 1 questions

Write the answer · Challenge

Here’s one done for you

The model letter has every part in order: address, date, greeting, three or four sentences on one topic, and the closing with a name. Notice the body stays on the holidays and does not wander - a letter that drifts loses content marks even when the format is perfect. Your child's letter should look different in content and identical in shape.

Answers

While your child works

  • Format marks are given before anyone reads the content. Get the shape right first and the letter is already scoring.
  • पूज्य/आदरणीय with आप for elders, प्रिय with तुम for friends. Mixing these is the most common error in the whole exercise.
  • The model letter is one possible answer. Judge your child's on shape and on staying with one topic, not on matching ours.

Questions parents ask

About this worksheet

Is there a model letter?

Yes, with every part of the format marked. It is one possible letter rather than the correct one - judge your child's on whether the shape is right and whether the body stays on a single topic.

How many marks are for format in patra lekhan?

A substantial share, and they are awarded before the content is read. That makes the format the cheapest and most reliable thing to secure in this question, which is why the first exercise here is only about order.

Does this Class 5 Hindi worksheet come with answers?

Yes. Every exercise has a full answer key, and it prints on its own page at the end rather than beside the questions - so you can hand your child the sheet and keep the answers back. Some exercises also show one question already worked out, with the method rather than just the result, which is the part most answer keys leave out.

Is there a free printable PDF?

Yes, and there is no sign-up, no email and no account. The download button at the top of the sheet gives you the whole thing - all 16 questions across 3 exercises, plus the answer key - laid out to print on A4.

How long does this worksheet take?

About 25 minutes for 16 questions, though that is a guide rather than a target. It is designed to be split: the exercises are ordered so stopping halfway still leaves a complete piece of work, which matters more than finishing at this age.

Can I use it if my child is in a different class?

Often, yes - these topics are taught across several years and schools vary in when they arrive. Judge by the questions rather than the class on the label. If the first exercise is a struggle the level below is the better start, and the same topic at other levels is linked further up this page.
