आज बहुत गर्मी है। → विधानवाचक. It simply states something. The punctuation is the fastest clue: a full stop usually means a statement or a command, a question mark means प्रश्नवाचक, and an exclamation mark means विस्मयादिबोधक or इच्छावाचक. Look at the last mark first.

Adding क्या at the front and changing the full stop to a question mark is usually enough. For the polite command, कृपया plus the आइए form does the work - आओ becomes आइए, and that change of verb form is what makes it polite rather than the word कृपया alone.

The words say 'to show the thumb' and the meaning is 'to refuse'. That gap is the whole point of a muhavara - a child translating literally will always be wrong, and the sentence has to use the real meaning.

While your child works

  • Look at the final punctuation mark first when naming a sentence type. It settles most of them before the sentence has been read.
  • For polite commands, the verb form changes - आओ becomes आइए. कृपया alone is not what makes it polite.
  • Accept any sentence that uses a muhavara with its real meaning. Ours are examples.

Questions parents ask

About this worksheet

Are the answers included?

Yes, on this page under each exercise and on a separate sheet when printed. For the idiom sentences, any correct use counts.

How should my child learn muhavare?

By meaning and use rather than by reciting. Ten idioms genuinely understood and used in sentences are worth more than fifty memorised, because the paper asks for use rather than recall.

Does this Class 6 Hindi worksheet come with answers?

Yes. Every exercise has a full answer key, and it prints on its own page at the end rather than beside the questions - so you can hand your child the sheet and keep the answers back. Some exercises also show one question already worked out, with the method rather than just the result, which is the part most answer keys leave out.

Is there a free printable PDF?

Yes, and there is no sign-up, no email and no account. The download button at the top of the sheet gives you the whole thing - all 32 questions across 3 exercises, plus the answer key - laid out to print on A4.

How long does this worksheet take?

About 20 minutes for 32 questions, though that is a guide rather than a target. It is designed to be split: the exercises are ordered so stopping halfway still leaves a complete piece of work, which matters more than finishing at this age.

Can I use it if my child is in a different class?

Often, yes - these topics are taught across several years and schools vary in when they arrive. Judge by the questions rather than the class on the label. If the first exercise is a struggle the level below is the better start, and the same topic at other levels is linked further up this page.
