Ask on WhatsApp - opens WhatsAppClass 10 Hindi is offered at two levels - Course A, which is more literary, and Course B, which is lighter - and both examine vyakaran, writing and prescribed readers. Most marks are lost in vyakaran and in the writing formats rather than in comprehension, which is why fluency in Hindi is not the same as preparation for the paper.
There is a particular disappointment that recurs in board results, and it is almost always Hindi. A child who speaks the language at home, reads the reader without difficulty and understands every poem scores in the seventies, while their maths and science sit ten marks higher. The reason is consistent: the paper is largely vyakaran and writing, both of which are learned rather than absorbed, and neither of which anyone revised because Hindi felt like the safe subject. It is a solvable problem, and it is solvable faster than any other subject in the board year.

Because it is assumed to be safe and therefore never revised, while most of the paper is vyakaran and writing - both learned rather than absorbed, and both entirely predictable.
The assumption is understandable. A child who speaks Hindi at home does read the reader easily and does understand the poems. That covers comprehension and it does not cover the paper.
वाक्य रूपांतरण, वाच्य परिवर्तन, समास, अलंकार, मुहावरे - none of these is transmitted by conversation. They are a body of rules, and a child who has never sat down with them will lose the same marks every time, no matter how fluent they are.
The encouraging half of this is that the fix is fast. Vyakaran is finite and the questions are predictable, so a focused term moves the Hindi mark further than a focused term moves almost anything else. See Class 9 Hindi for where this starts.
Disproportionately in vyakaran and the short writing questions, both of which are rule-based and quickly improved. Literature answers improve more slowly and are the wrong place to start when time is short.
If a family has limited time for Hindi in a board year - and most do - this is the order to spend it in.
From the text rather than from a remembered भावार्थ. A line quoted from the poem is what turns a general answer into a specific one, and it is what the marking scheme is looking for.
The commonest weak पद्य answer is a memorised explanation of the poem's meaning, written out regardless of what the question asked.
What works instead: answer the question in the first line, quote the relevant पंक्ति, and explain what it shows. It is the same evidence-based structure that English literature answers need, and children who have built the habit in one language transfer it to the other without being asked.
This also protects against a specific board-year risk - a question phrased unfamiliarly. A child answering from a remembered भावार्थ has nothing to say when the question is angled differently; a child answering from the text can always find a line.
Vyakaran first and rule-first, formats second, literature third - in whichever course your child's school follows, and with past papers used from early in the year.
The first session is a ten-minute vyakaran check: two समास, one वाक्य रूपांतरण, one वाच्य change, one अलंकार. It nearly always shows a fluent child with a specific, closable gap, and it decides how the term is spent.
Rule-first is the whole method. A child who has memorised twenty समास words is stuck when the twenty-first appears in the paper; a child who does the विग्रह first can answer a word they have never seen - and the board reliably asks about words nobody memorised.
We teach whichever course the school follows and from your child's own books, since the readers differ between Course A and Course B.

On track by the end of Class 10 looks like
Where it usually goes wrong
Class 10 sits in Class 9 and 10. Board-exam teaching, with past papers and marking schemes.
Per child, per month. See every plan and what is included.
Everything above about the syllabus is checked against the boards’ own material rather than against other tuition sites. If a claim cannot be traced back to one of these, it is not on the page.
Usually because Hindi was assumed safe and never revised. Most of the paper is vyakaran and writing formats, which are learned rather than absorbed - and fluency covers comprehension, not the part that carries the marks.
Course A is the more literary and demanding option; Course B is lighter and intended for students for whom Hindi is a second or third language. The choice is normally made in Class 9 and carries into Class 10.
Vyakaran first - वाक्य रूपांतरण, वाच्य, समास, अलंकार - then the writing formats, then literature. The first two are rule-based and move quickly; literature improves more slowly.
From the text. Answer the question in the first line, quote the relevant पंक्ति, then explain what it shows. A remembered भावार्थ has nothing to offer when the question is phrased unfamiliarly.
Faster than most subjects. Vyakaran is finite and predictable, so a focused term moves the Hindi mark further than the same term spent almost anywhere else - which is why it is the best late-start subject.
In CBSE schools, क्षितिज and कृतिका for Course A and स्पर्श and संचयन for Course B, with a separate vyakaran book in most schools. We teach from your child's own books.
One or two, weighted heavily towards vyakaran and the writing formats. In a Hindi-speaking household the readers rarely need the time; the grammar always does.
Yes, and Hindi is one of the best subjects for it. The rules are finite and the writing formats are mechanical, so a few focused weeks can still move the mark noticeably.
