Ask on WhatsApp - opens WhatsAppCBSE offers Hindi at two levels in Class 9: Course A, which is more literary and demanding, and Course B, which is lighter and aimed at students for whom Hindi is a second or third language. Both cover vyakaran, writing and prescribed readers, and the choice made in Class 9 normally carries into Class 10.
Most Class 9 families do not choose between Course A and Course B - the school allocates, or the child continues whatever the section was doing, and nobody discusses it. That is worth thirty minutes of thought, because the choice follows the child into the board year. Beyond that, Class 9 Hindi is the subject where a fluent speaker is most likely to be quietly under-prepared, for the same reason as in Class 8: most of the paper is vyakaran and writing, and neither is transmitted by speaking the language at home.

By what the child will need rather than by what scores easily. Course A is more literary and demanding; Course B is lighter and intended for students for whom Hindi is a second or third language. The Class 9 choice normally carries into Class 10.
Two honest points, and then the decision is yours.
Course B is not a lesser subject, and it is a lighter one. For a child whose home language is not Hindi and who finds the older poetry genuinely difficult, it is the sensible choice and it protects an aggregate.
Course A is worth taking seriously if Hindi is a strength. A child comfortable in the language often scores as well in Course A and gains from the harder literature, and the choice stops being a compromise.
What matters most is that the decision is made rather than defaulted into. Ask the school which course the section is doing and whether a change is possible - many families never ask, and then discover in Class 10 that the choice was made for them in Class 9.
Because most of the paper is vyakaran and writing, and neither is transmitted by conversation. Nobody speaks in समास विग्रह or अलंकार, and those carry substantial marks.
This is the same point as in Class 8, and it gets sharper in Class 9 because the vyakaran section is larger.
Fluency genuinely helps with the readers, with comprehension and with writing that sounds natural. It does nothing for उपसर्ग, प्रत्यय, समास, संधि or अलंकार, which are learned rather than absorbed.
The consolation is real and worth saying: because the gap is knowledge rather than ability, Hindi is one of the fastest subjects to improve. A term of proper vyakaran work usually moves the mark further than a term spent on any other subject.
In vyakaran and in the short writing questions. Both are rule-based and both are scored quickly, unlike the literature answers, which take longer to improve.
If a family has limited time for Hindi - and most do - this is where to spend it.
Vyakaran first and rule-first, formats next, literature last - and in whichever course your child's school follows. The first session is a ten-minute vyakaran check, which usually shows a fluent child with a specific closable gap.
Rule-first matters more than it sounds. A child who has learned twenty समास words is stuck when the twenty-first appears in the paper; a child who does the विग्रह first can answer a word they have never seen. That difference is most of the subject.
We teach whichever course the school follows and from your child's own books, since the readers differ between Course A and Course B and vyakaran texts vary widely between schools.

Where it usually goes wrong
Class 9 sits in Class 9 and 10. Board-exam teaching, with past papers and marking schemes.
Per child, per month. See every plan and what is included.
Everything above about the syllabus is checked against the boards’ own material rather than against other tuition sites. If a claim cannot be traced back to one of these, it is not on the page.
Course A is the more literary and demanding option, with older poetry and denser prose. Course B is lighter and designed for students for whom Hindi is a second or third language. The Class 9 choice normally carries into Class 10.
Course B if Hindi is genuinely difficult and the home language is another - it is a sensible choice, not a lesser one. Course A if Hindi is a strength, since a comfortable child usually scores as well and gains from the literature.
Often yes, for a reason unrelated to fluency. Most of the paper is vyakaran and writing, and nobody speaks in समास विग्रह or अलंकार. Those carry substantial marks and are learned rather than absorbed.
In vyakaran and the short writing questions. Both are rule-based and score quickly. Literature improves more slowly, so it is the wrong place to start when time is short.
Policies vary by school and by year, so ask your school directly rather than assuming either way. Many families never ask and find in Class 10 that the choice was settled for them a year earlier.
In CBSE schools, क्षितिज and कृतिका for Course A and स्पर्श and संचयन for Course B, with a separate vyakaran book in most schools. We teach from your child's own books.
One or two, weighted heavily towards vyakaran and the writing formats. In a Hindi-speaking household the readers rarely need the time; the grammar always does.
Faster than most subjects, because the gap is usually knowledge rather than ability. Vyakaran is finite and predictable, and a term of proper work on it typically moves the mark further than a term anywhere else.
