Class 2 Hindi E, Ai, O and Au Ki Matra Worksheet with Answers

The last four matras, and the third position a child has to learn: ए and ऐ sit above the letter, while ओ and औ sit above and to the right. With the earlier sheets that makes all four positions - beside, below, above, and above-right - which is worth laying out as a set rather than teaching one at a time in isolation.

ख + े + ल → खेल. The े sits ABOVE the letter, on the headline. ऐ (ै) is the same position but with two strokes instead of one - so पैर has two marks above the प.

While your child works

  • Teach the four positions as a set - beside, below, above, above-and-right. Learning matras one at a time without the map is why placement stays guesswork for some children well into Class 3.
  • ऐ and औ are just doubled versions of ए and ओ. Pointing that out turns four things to remember into two.
  • ि remains the odd one out - written before the letter, read after. It is worth revisiting whenever the position exercise comes up.

Most of these topics are taught over several years rather than in one. If this sheet is too hard or too easy, the same idea at another level is usually the fix.

Questions parents ask

About this worksheet

Where do ओ and औ की मात्रा go?

Above the letter and with a vertical stroke to the right - so ो occupies two positions at once, as in मोर. औ (ौ) is the same shape with a doubled mark above. They are the only matras that use two positions.

How many matra positions are there in total?

Four: beside the letter (ा), below it (ु ू), above it (े ै), and above-with-a-stroke-to-the-right (ो ौ). Plus ि, which is written before the letter but read after. Teaching them as a set rather than one at a time removes most placement errors.

Is the answer key included?

Yes, printed separately from the questions, and the PDF is free with no sign-up.

Does this Class 2 Hindi worksheet come with answers?

Yes. Every exercise has a full answer key, and it prints on its own page at the end rather than beside the questions - so you can hand your child the sheet and keep the answers back. Some exercises also show one question already worked out, with the method rather than just the result, which is the part most answer keys leave out.

Is there a free printable PDF?

Yes, and there is no sign-up, no email and no account. The download button at the top of the sheet gives you the whole thing - all 53 questions across 5 exercises, plus the answer key - laid out to print on A4.

How long does this worksheet take?

About 25 minutes for 53 questions, though that is a guide rather than a target. It is designed to be split: the exercises are ordered so stopping halfway still leaves a complete piece of work, which matters more than finishing at this age.

Can I use it if my child is in a different class?

Often, yes - these topics are taught across several years and schools vary in when they arrive. Judge by the questions rather than the class on the label. If the first exercise is a struggle the level below is the better start, and the same topic at other levels is linked further up this page.
